Volunteer

The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. We carry out our mission through various venues including committee work. Each committee accomplishes specific duties, acts within the framework of Board-adopted policies, and reports progress to the Board. Here is a brief description of what each committee is charged with:

WOMEN’S ADVOCACY COMMITTEE
This committee meets monthly and explores the issues that affect women in the community and develop action plans to address core advocacy issues such as violence against women, increasing women’s income, economic empowerment, and early childhood education for working families.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

This committee meets monthly and develops a plan to assure the association is adequately funded for its current and long-term operations, that it realizes maximum value from its resources, and is protected by an insurance program; oversees financial operations making certain that expenditures are within the annual budget approved by the Board of Directors and assists in preparation and presentation of the annual budget to the Board of Directors; gives monthly reports to the Board of Directors as to the income, expenditures, and fund balance of the association.

FUND DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
This committee meets monthly and oversees the YWCA’s fiscal growth through multiple funding avenues to support programs and services and plans / coordinates fund drives.

PR COMMITTEE

This committee meets every other month and advises / works on general PR efforts of the YWCA; recommends and helps develop new PR opportunities; and helps streamline PR efforts within the community.

RACIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE
This committee meets monthly and assesses the community’s attitude toward cultural diversity; provides opportunities for cultural diversity training; and hosts the annual Racial Justice Forum.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE

This committee meets as needed January through March and presents a ballot to the association electorate with nominees for the Board of Directors and Nominating Committee and presents candidates to fill vacancies in the Board of Directors or in the Nominating Committee during the interim between regular elections. This committee includes seven members elected by the voting members of the Association (4 Board members and 3 non-board mission members).

WEEK WITHOUT VIOLENCE COMMITTEE

This committee meets as needed June through October to develop and coordinate the annual Week Without Violence campaign, which is a community collaboration with local agencies that promotes community awareness and explores alternate, non-violent methods of resolving differences.

YULETIDE MARKET COMMITTEE
This committee meets as needed June through November to develop and coordinate the annual Yuletide Market, which is a shopping extravaganza fundraiser featuring merchants from all over Texas. The event includes shopping, a formal luncheon, a silent auction, and a motivating speaker.

YWCA Y WOMEN IN CAREERS COMMITTEE
This committee meets as needed June through March to develop and coordinate the annual Y Women In Careers event, which is an awards banquet honoring exceptional professional women in our community.

HR COMMITTEE
This committee meets quarterly and develops / keeps current personnel policies and practices consistent with the association goals and in compliance with legal requirements; supports the Executive Director in the establishment of procedural controls that will assure responsible administration of personnel policies and practices; reviews and revises personnel policies and practices as necessary; and reviews job descriptions, wage and hour scale, updating as needed.

BUILDING & GROUNDS COMMITTEE
This committee meets quarterly and monitors facility status and needs; makes recommendations for facility, grounds, and maintenance and improvement renovations.

Both men and women are welcome to join our committees.
