The YWTeens Leadership Camps are dynamic, three or four-day workshops designed to teach group dynamics, leadership skills and multi-cultural communication skills. The camps provide girls the opportunity to express their own creativity; identify their personal strengths, qualities and values; be a leader in a tough world; explore continuing education choices and career options; and establish short and long-term goals and the steps it takes to be successful in achieving their goals.
Camp participants get to visit with a variety of guest speakers and community leaders during the workshop. Many of the guest speakers have overcome the same obstacles that today’s young girls face, and they enjoy sharing their stories. The speakers introduce new ideas about higher education and future career choices and encourage the girls to reach higher with greater confidence.
The camp ends with a graduation ceremony to acknowledge the strengths and accomplishments of each girl. With a certificate, new friends, and hilarious memories, the girls leave with new goals and the confidence to go out and achieve those goals.
The camps have been funded by friends of the YWCA, so there is no cost for girls. The camps are open to all girls who are currently in the 5th and 6th grades. The girls will be served lunch and two snacks each day. They will also swim each day, so they should bring a swimsuit, a towel, and a bag for their wet items after swimming.
Holiday Camps will be scheduled for Thanksgiving, Christmas break, and Spring Break. Summer Leadership Camps will be scheduled for June and July. Check for availability. All Leadership Camps take place at YWCA, 4601 Corona. To register, complete the appropriate registration form and the participation form.
